Media Literacy is the ability to access, analyze, evaluate and produce communication, in a variety of forms and media technologies.
Program Description:
Why explore music as Media? Most children don’t have a clear understanding of what media is. Participants will learn the simple basics of what Media is and how we use different formats of Media (electronic, print, visual, etc.) to communicate with each other. Participants will be introduced to the definition of Media Literacy and receive basic hands on media training, while exploring music as Media.
“Let’s Play Music”
is a fun-filled enrichment activity that includes: (introduction to beginning music / theory, the keyboard / xylophone and percussion instruments. Participants will learn how to read basic music notes and clap their rhythms, (all instruments may be used to explore how participants can create sound effects electronically and acoustically).
Participants will do musical activities that will allow them to walk, run, skip, hop, march and move to the sounds / rhythm of selected music.
Everyone is encouraged (including staff), to use percussion instruments to create their own music / beats, while doing these activities.
Participants are encouraged to combine the arts (stage grooming, singing, dancing, public speaking, skits, etc.), in their presentation of a final performance showcase to conclude all workshops.
